Bookbinding, Book Restoration, and Book Conservation Pricing

Light of Day will evaluate any book, document or other structure without charge or obligation. Sometimes we are able to discuss a job over the phone, but exact costs of a particular job can be established after examining it at the bindery.

Restoration:

Restoration is the most difficult work to price in general terms. A price range is provided only as a guideline because of the time consuming nature of some types of paper, cloth and leather repairs.

Restoration of Cloth Books and Bibles:

Small bindings under 8″ $80 and up with Yapp Edges $95 and up
Medium Bibles 8 – 10″ $100 and up
Large Bibles over 10″ $130 and up

Restoration of Leather Books and Bibles:

Small bindings under 8″ $150 and up
Medium bindings 8 – 10″ $175 and up
Large bindings over 10″ $275 and up

New Bindings in Book Cloth:

Small bindings under 8″ $80 and up
Medium books 8 “- 10” $105 and up
Large Books over 10″ $130 and up

New Bindings in Leather:

Small Leather bindings under 8″ quarter binding, half binding and full leather $185 – and up
Medium Leather bindings 8″ – 10″ quarter binding, half binding and full leather $210 – and up
Large Leather binding over 10″ quarter binding, half binding and full leather $285 – and up

Clam Shell Boxes:

Most cloth boxes cost between $130 and $190 based upon the size of the book. Customers can choose custom colors, marbled and other decorated papers and suedes to decorate their box.

Slip Cases:

Slip cases are generally less expensive than clam shell boxes. Most often customers are encouraged to order a clam shell box because of the superior nature of the protection of the book from light, air, dirt and abrasion. A slip case is open on one side, revealing the spine. This lets light and dirt affect the book.

Titling and Tooling:

Titling, labels and other 22K gold decorations are available. There is a $20 set up fee and text is priced at $.25 per letter.
